Eating It Up in Eden: The Oregon Century Farm & Ranch Cookbook, by Richard Engeman. Published by the White House Grocery Press, May 2009.
(7x9, 124 pgs, paperback) Featuring nearly 100 home recipes from Oregon's oldest farms and ranches, Eating It Up in Eden marks the fiftieth anniversary of the Century Farm & Ranch Program. The program honors families who have farmed or ranched on the same lands for a century or more. Recipes in Eating It Up in Eden come from more than fifty contributors spanning Oregon, from Curry County on the Southwest Coast to the Blue Mountains of Wallowa County. Many of the recipes feature such Oregon specialties as apples, pears, hazelnuts, and marionberries. Kitchen-garden staples -- potatoes, tomatoes, peas, squash -- also appear in a number of recipes. These recipes are enduring family favorites, practical and delicious, fresh from the kitchens of busy Oregon farmers and ranchers. Written by historian Richard H. Engeman, the book includes a short history of Oregon agriculture, a history of the Oregon Century Farm & Ranch program, and a roster of the more than a thousand Century Farms & Ranches designated since 1958. Eating It Up in Eden contains dozens of historical photographs and illustrations, and anecdotes from the recipe contributors.
